Florida Collection

The State Library's Florida Collection houses a treasure trove of materials about Florida's past, present, and future.

Wildlife, business, agriculture, the arts, fiction, education, government, and history are some of the topics that researchers, students, and all fans of Florida can explore in the Florida Collection.

Information is in a variety of formats including books, pamphlets, manuscripts, newspapers, broadsides, maps, clippings, pictures, and microforms. The Florida Public Documents collection includes information and material published by Florida government from territorial days to the present.

The Florida Collection is located in the Dorothy Dodd Room in the R.A. Gray Building. The room is named after the first State Archivist, Dr. Dorothy Dodd, who was appointed in 1941 and served as State Librarian from 1952 until 1965. Throughout her tenure at the State Library, she actively preserved valuable Floridiana. With her foresight and knowledge of the state and its history, she built a collection of outstanding scope and depth.
