Arts, Reading Test
The GED Language
Arts, Reading Test is a 65-minute long test composed of 40 multiple-choice
questions based on different types of reading passages. Reading
is an important skill. The GED Language Arts, Reading Test requires
that individuals be able to not only comprehend what they are reading,
but also that they can interpret different types of passages. The
test uses reading materials such as:
|
poetry |
|
drama/plays |
|
fictional
works from all different time periods |
|
nonfiction
prose |
|
critical
reviews |
|
workplace
and community documents, such as legal documents, letters, manuals,
etc. |
Diverse ages,
multicultural and ethnic backgrounds, gender, socioeconomic groups,
and regional differences are considered when reading passages are
selected.
Individuals taking
the Reading Test must use higher-order thinking skills in order
to successfully respond to the questions. Some questions will require
that the person demonstrate an understanding of the use of figurative
language, tone, or literary themes. This test is much more than
just reading a passage and answering a comprehension question.
