Mathematics
Test
The GED Mathematics
Test has two parts, each with 25 questions for a total of 50 questions.
Of these, 40 of the questions are multiple-choice format and 10
are grid format. The entire Mathematics Test is 90 minutes long.
Each part of the test includes an equal percentage of questions
on:
|
number
operations and number sense |
|
data
analysis, statistics, and probability |
|
algebra |
|
geometry
and measurement |
The GED Mathematics
Test assesses problem-solving and application skills in the higher
levels of math, rather than just whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
A page of formulas is also provided for use in geometric calculations.
What's the
Difference Between Part I and Part II?
Part I of the
Mathematics Test covers the same type of content as Part II. Both
parts contain multiple-choice questions, as well as grid formats
and both parts provide a formulas page to use with geometry and
measurement problems.
However, on
Part I of the Math Test, a candidate is allowed to use the Casio
fx-260 Solar Scientific Calculator. The calculator is provided to
the candidate at the test site. A personal calculator cannot be
brought into the testing session. Although the use of the calculator
is not required, it does speed up the mathematical process of tedious
calculations.
What does the
calculator look like? Although, the Casio fx-260 can be purchased
at most stores that sell calculators, take a look below at what
the Casio fx-260 looks like.
After
Part I is completed, the calculators are collected and the candidate
begins Part II using only paper and pencil to figure out the answers
to the problems.
